Hvor skal man begynne etter å ha lest seg gjennom de foreløpig 47 sidene av denne fantastiske tråden de siste dagene? Wow.
Jeg kan begynne med å si at det virkelig har vært en sann nytelse fra ende til annen – fra de reflekterende betraktninger rundt det å miste interessen i en hobby, til de inspirerende reisebrevene, og sist, men ikke minst fyldige artikler om det som må sies å være noe så sjeldent som et ekte geni: herr François-Paul Journe.
Jeg er ny i klokkeverdenen, helt fersk. Er også helt fersk her på forumet. Som student er det nok fortsatt en stund til jeg erverver min første ordentlige klokke, men målet for min klokkereise er utvilsomt allerede satt, nemlig en F.P. Journe Chronomètre Bleu! (Og drømmen må jo da bli en Grand Sonnerie) Jeg må si at jeg var usikker på designen helt i starten, men etter hvert som dybden i skiva åpenbaret seg og jeg forstod hvilken mester som har produsert den, er jeg nå helt frelst! Gratulerer, måtte du aldri selge den.
Jeg har vært flere ganger i London, og elsker – i likhet med mange andre her – denne byen. Prøver å få dratt iallfall 1-2 ganger årlig og denne tråden har gitt meg en mengde nye steder å besøke. Om jeg selv skulle komme med en anbefaling, må det være trøffelpasta på Cecconi's i Mayfair. Spiste der for en måned siden, og det var helt fantastisk. De hadde også en meget hissig espresso martini.
Nok en gang, takk for en fantastisk tråd – uten tvil den beste jeg har lest, uavhengig av forum.

Quantième Perpetuel automatic movement
The new Quantième Perpétuel launched by F.P. Journe clearly demonstrates how Mr. Journe works, and what his ambitions are. Originally announced in 2014, only a trickle (on Journe’s scale, that is less than 10) of the watches ordered have been delivered. Is a QP that difficult to make? Well, it all depends on what you are trying to achieve. If F.P. Journe was only about sales and filling orders, it would have been easy to simply relaunch the limited-edition OP that came out a few years back. This limited edition of 99 timepieces was a boutique exclusive, in titanium and red gold. As this watch was strictly “limited,” Mr. Journe could not reuse its same movement.

It would have been tempting to simply change the case material and dial and fulfill the requests from collectors. But that is not the way F.P. Journe operates. One: it is not ethical. Two, and more importantly: if Mr. Journe decides to do a new watch, it has to be new — and not just cosmetically. And here he has embarked upon a task that has become “complicated.” All other QPs are “dragging” — meaning that the different displays (such as the day, date, month, and leap-year indicators) jump at a different time. It is why the user’s manual on such watches warns you not to manually adjust the displays between the times of 10 PM and 2 AM, as the gears are already engaged. F.P. Journe’s QP jumps in 16 thousandths of a second! Consider that the blink of an eye (technically of the eyelids) takes 10 times longer! So fast is the jump that the eye may not perceive it. And this is where the complication arises – Mr. Journe had to purchase a super slow-motion camera (which takes 4,000 pictures in one second) to analyze what was happening. The amount of energy in what we call a dynamic movement is tremendous – especially when the indicators are windows and not hands (due to a weight differential problem).
With that ingenious system, it would be impossible to damage the movement by changing the date manually.
Month adjuster
Another important point for Mr. Journe was aesthetics. Most (all?) QPs are fitted with push-buttons or correctors on the side of the watch to manually adjust the date. All functions on the F.P. Journe Quantième Perpétuel may be activated from the crown. But in order for the user not to have to change over four years to account for the leap year, Mr. Journe hid a lever that, when pushed down, can adjust the month.
So, as in any Journe watch, apparent simplicity is, well… not so simple. But isn’t it reassuring and comforting to know that Mr. Journe’s ethics enable us to experience true novelty?

Liker godt at Journe tok det etisk riktige valget. Både LTD og den nye QPen var flotte. Ganske hårete med ikke bare platinum kasse, men lenke. 
Premiere of ‘The Single Men – Masters of the Incredible and the Beautiful’

British Director and Producer Philip Selkirk has just released “The Single Men – Masters of the Incredible and The Beautiful”, a film dedicated to the finest independent artisans of watchmaking. The film features something of a who’s who of top watch makers including F.P.Journe, Andreas Strehler, Kari Voutilainen, Laurent Picciotto, and of course, what movie on Swiss watchmaking would be complete without Jean-Claude Biver, President of the LVMH Watch Division.
The premiere of the film was hosted by F. P. Journe in Geneva and was followed by a unique Q & A session organized between Jean Claude Biver, Laurent Picciotto and host François-Paul Journe. The reception was followed by a cocktail. The Single Men title refers not to their marital status but their single minded determination to create outstanding watches. Independent watchmakers’ have a tendency to work completely alone, or with a small team. They operate in the shadows of the big business, far from the bright lights that shine on their name-brand competitors. It is a coalition of 32 watch- and clockmakers bound by a fierce commitment to artisanal watchmaking.
The film features watchmakers that are members of Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI), an international academy of independent watchmakers. These watchmakers often can be found working completely alone, or with a small team. Their driving force is the fact that they are choosing their own path and exploring watchmaking in unique ways. The AHCI is a place for these watchmakers to come together, collaborate and support each other. Founded in 1985, the AHCI’s mission is to “perpetuate independent watch and clock making.” They do this by promoting independent watchmakers on a global level and attracting young watchmakers to consider working independently.
The AHCI is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2015. To commemorate the occasion the documentary by filmmaker Philip Selkirk has been released.
Selkirk is well-known for his documentaries focused on motor sports. Through the production of his films about the Mille Miglia, the Historic Grand Prix de Monaco as well as Maserati and others, Selkirk started seeing the strong crossover between car and watch collectors.
At his first visit to BaselWorld in 2013, Selkirk was immediately attracted to the AHCI, seeing the members as having “a certain turbulent genius… an attribute necessary to launch, move and revive something.”
The “Single Men” speak fervently of their common goal: ensuring that the mechanical watch continues to thrive. The documentary will feature some of the works of art made by the likes of Svend Andersen, Vincent Calabrese, Philippe Dufour, Paul Gerber, Vianney Halter and Francois-Paul Journe.
The film includes interviews with watchmaker visionaries as well as leading figures of the watch industry like Jean-Claude Biver. Michael Clerizo, noted for his in-depth analysis of bespoke luxury watches for the Wall Street Journal, will also be sharing thoughts and background knowledge with the viewer.

Det eneste som er synd med flere av disse independent merkene er prisen. Men igjen så mener jeg selv at det også er stor forskjell på masseproduserte møbler som man får flatpakket med en unmrakonøkkel, og eks. håndlagde møbler fra vår danske bror.
