A Rolex 1680 makeover.

This one will be the one that will get the makeover, a regular great white Ref 1680.

I start to check how it runs and it looks ok IMHO.

So I pull out my custom Oyster case opener.

sw97.jpg

Here we go.

sw96.jpg

Just what I expect, a caliber 1570.

sw95.jpg

So out with the crown.

sw94.jpg

There we go.

sw93.jpg

Next step is the movement.

sw92.jpg

It went smoothly also.

sw91.jpg

A perfect servicedial with Luminova and marked as a Tritium dial.

sw90.jpg

The case is in good condition too.

sw89.jpg

Next step will be the bezel.

sw88.jpg

sw87.jpg

And then the ring that keep the crystal in place ind make sure there will be no water in the case.

sw86.jpg

sw85.jpg

sw84.jpg

That went good too.

sw83.jpg

sw82.jpg

Next step is to pull off the rotor.

sw81.jpg

The movement looks good.

sw80.jpg

sw79.jpg

sw78.jpg

So I turn it around.

sw77.jpg

And pull off the hands.

sw76.jpg

sw75.jpg

It looks great at this side too.

sw74.jpg

So next step is to clean the parts.

sw73.jpg

A set of new gaskets.

sw72.jpg

sw71.jpg

A new crystal.

sw70.jpg

Then I will put back the ring around the crystal.

sw69.jpg

sw68.jpg

Now the fun will begin, a blue nipple dial.

sw67.jpg

sw66.jpg

A set of hands.

sw65.jpg

A new crown.

sw64.jpg

And a factory fresh complete 18k bezel will ice the cake.

sw63.jpg

A leak test is always nice to do.

sw62.jpg

So when Rolex decide to never make a TT Blue nipple dial with a suitable blue strap so someone have to do it.

Will it sink or swim?
